Pool players miss. Balls luck into pocket anyway. Funny.

Balls go to designated pocket accidentally. Fun to watch. Fortunately for the players here (and all of us), under almost all Call Pocket Rules (even in major tournaments for all pool disciplines) it is rarely necessary to specify *details* such as the number of banks, kisses, caroms, rails, etc.
STRICKLAND age 27 vs SIGEL age 34. World title final

Great, CLASSIC PROFESSIONAL POOL when Earl and Mike were near their peak abilities, and about half their present ages (57 & 65). Expert commentary by very personable Steve MIZERAK. Plenty of sarcasm to spectators, and frustrated eyeball rolling all around (and whining by both players). EFREN REYES is phenomenal in this race-to-11 match. Hard to believe that he's just received news from the Philippines that his father has died. He immediately flew back home after this match ended. At 34:39 REYES gets "camera-bit" and badly misses when shooting at the 2-ball (as any shooter would when the director's cameraman moves right into your line of sight to get a view of the ball coming ...
John Schmidt kick-carom shot!! Slo-mo's amazing

This is an amazing John Schmidt shot few players would've seen (or dared). My excerpted clip is at normal speed, followed by 4 slo-mo’s so you can examine the physics of it. We all know he had couple of logical, less risky *safety shots* available, but he was feeling his oats, playing well and was itching to get a run underway, and simply couldn’t resist it once he saw it. He's 25 years-old here, hugely talented, trying to defeat Reyes and win the title and the $25,000 prize money. Steph: That foul has been discussed hundreds of times here by sharp-eyed viewers like yourself. It was a foul that no one caught that day -- not the ref, nor the commentators. In the heat of the moment even Reyes himself and Immonen didn't realize it. Believe me, Immonen would have immediately called "foul" if he had noticed that 8 moving which would be his right to do *_Everyone's eyes (including the casino audience) were glued on the shot and the ball heading for the pocket_* I personally asked Immonen about that foul a year after the event was televised From the partially obstructed view he had, he didn't see it, and like everyone else -- ref, commentators, all casino spectators -- his eyes were on the object ball heading towards the pocket. ~ Ray C.

Enjoy some pool history facts behind the cloth and that table-center logo they used in this tournament: Logos of various casinos were seen during several major tournaments' semis and finals in the mid-1980s for the obvious reason that *_the casinos_* were -- thankfully -- experimenting with sponsoring and heavily promoting pro pool for the firs time, (to the delight of pool fans and all professional players). These occasional logos in the finals were very briefly a condition of a few pro tour-casino *_contractual relationships_* The table seen in these three video-ed matches was fitted with an extremely slow rug-like cloth from that particular casino's large supply of *_poker table fabric_* thus the visible power-stroking of most shots, and thus the conspicuous publicity logo. Lifelong fans of pro pool appreciate all efforts made by promoters and sponsors throughout the four or five recent decades of our beloved sport, and especially the absorbing (and instructive)films, videos and pro tournaments that resulted from their efforts. Just my helpfully intended oldtimer's insight into some of televised-pool's history .

Veronica: For more than a hundred years of MAJOR billiards tournaments starting in the late 19th century and during about 3/4 of the 20th century, *_no player in history was ever comfortable playing in a tuxedo_* but whenever deemed necessary, sensible players did it in willing compliance with sporadic efforts to enhance the general public's sometimes negative perception of the sport's image. The players generally had a shot at substantial money (for the times) and quite willingly cooperated (wouldn't anyone?) with any promoter's dress codes whenever that's the look the production company (and appreciative sponsors) wanted. It was "their dime", (the funding that made certain major events possible -- to delight of fans of quality pool events. In former days, tuxedos were often contractually required either for the entire tournament (or sometimes only for closing matches) by promoters of many high-stakes, televised major tournaments. ~ Ray C.

Simon: Over the years many thousands of my viewers here have noted that Earl was a true gentleman and sportsman on this occasion. His vigorous applause and -- moments later -- his handshake and concession (the act of raising Efren's arm) -- saluting the incredible shot that virtually guaranteed the victory . . . was awesome to behold. With those amazingly sportsmanlike gestures of Concession, Earl was acting well beyond 99 percent of normal professional players *_on the losing end of a hill-hill final_* Strickland's gesture truly emphasized that he, along with all spectators had just witnessed an historic moment in professional pool playing. In an on-site interview with a reporter from Billiards Digest magazine Earl emotionally declared: *_That shot will become part of pool history!_* ~ Ray C.

Davenport is a great player. Efren plays with a great tempo & his stroke is just beautiful. Davenport shooting that 6-9 combo so hard was uncharacteristic of him. Davenport as you can see has a different tempo & style. He is very effective & beating Johnny Archer ain’t no easy task. Great match from almost 30 years ago.
